I’m Tanasia Swift, an Environmental Educator, Project Manager, and Climate Justice Leader based in New York City. I currently serve as the Assistant Director of Community Engagement at Billion Oyster Project, where I lead initiatives that connect communities to NYC’s waterfront through hands-on environmental education, community science, and marine restoration.
My expertise lies in creating equitable opportunities for urban youth to connect with nature, empowering them to become stewards of their local environment. As a local NYC SCUBA diver, I have firsthand experience exploring the city’s marine habitats, which fuels my commitment to protecting and restoring these ecosystems.
Please feel free to talk to me about:
-NYC waterfront environmental initiatives, including community-based restoration and education programs.
-Climate justice initiatives focused on increasing access to nature for marginalized communities.
-Strategies for getting urban youth outdoors, engaged in environmental science, and connected to local ecosystems.
-NYC marine wildlife, from oysters to seahorses, and how we can protect these species through community science.
